Resolutions

As 2015 comes to an end, we're looking back at all of the good times had, memories made and experiences gained. For some it may have been the best year ever and to to others its just a reminder of the differences we need to make for the next year.

2015 was a tough year for me. I went through so many changes, had some of the most stressful times of my life, graduated college, started working and most importantly find myself as a visual artist.

I think that regardless of what you went through last year, right now its time to reflect on another successful trip around the Sun. Being grateful for the things you have learned, the people you have met and most importantly, the great memories made.

Cheers 2015. I'm excited to see what you have in store, 2016.

A Day at The Broad

I recently had the chance to visit Los Angeles's newest contemporary art museum, The Broad. And it was amazing. Located in the arts district of Downtown Los Angeles, right across the street from Frank Gehry's Walt Disney Concert Hall.

I was first mesmerized by the beautifully planned architecture of the building. The exterior resembled a giant honeycomb. And the inside is a whole different story....

Don't call it a dream, call it a plan.

Hayley

Okay, so the last semester in school was so stressful that as soon as I graduated I lost all motivation to take photos for myself. Sure I used my camera for work and assisting jobs but for a few months I lost all of my creativity.

Fortunately I had the chance to link up with my old friend Hayley for a quick portrait session. Taking photos are fun when your subject is as beautiful as she is!

During my last semester at school I took a class called "Power of the Portrait" taught by the amazingly talented and wonderful all-around person, Tim Meyer. In this class we were taught how to shape light and also pose our subjects to make interesting and unique portraits.

Being in the Visual Journalism program, we were not really taught how to use the studio for portraits so this was such a great opportunity for me as a photographer. I learned so many things about different lighting equipment and how to create a certain look and feel to my images.

Here are some images of my friend Ross Thayer from that last semester at school.

The End is the Beginning is the End

Sooo here is a little update on my life since I haven't really been blogging. I graduated, I am trying to work and I am trying to somewhat manage this "adult life" thing, though I'm not sure I am doing so swell.

From the loads of homework assignments and photo projects to countless hours spent in the studio, as well as preparing for the Graduation Review and Portfolio Show, my final semester at Brooks Institute was one heck of a ride. The last few months of college may have been some of the most stressful times I have experienced in life so far, but you know what they say, it only gets harder from here.

After graduation I quickly went into working as a social media coordinator for the Downtown Ventura Organization where I learned many things about social media and marketing. Throughout that time I was lucky enough to have some freelance photography jobs working with some really awesome people.

Here is a small selection of images I wanted to share with you all from the last couple of months. Enjoy!

I was fortunate enough to be able to work with a lifestyle media company who hired me as their photographer. I was able to experience some crazy things, meet some great people and visit some amazing places in Los Angeles.

Also took a one night trip to Phoenix, AZ to do a job with miss Ashleigh Mower.

I had the chance to photograph the brand new Topa Topa Brewing Company  for Downtown Ventura Organization. They have some really tasty beers and a great atmosphere. Their Tasting Room is located at 104 E Thompson Blvd. Ventura, CA 93001.

And a very quick trip to the Bay, always a pleasure. San Francisco, you have a piece of my heart.

Quick and random trips to SLO :)

Oh yeah, and day trips to Sequoia National Park with my family for Mother's Day.

Also my beautiful, smart and amazing best friend Alexis graduated from UCLA. So glad to have been apart of this and I am so proud of you! Can't wait to see all of the amazing things you accomplish!

I have beautiful friends :)

Some snapshots from my wanderings through LA.

Just recently I was introduced by a good friend to a very wonderful photographer named Colin Young-Wolff, where I was offered a assisting job! Colin is a Los Angeles based behind the scenes and event photographer, who also attended Brooks Institute in the past. Colin and I work in very different fields of photography so I am really excited to start this next chapter in my life learning some new things which I know will be an amazing experience.

Cheers! to adulthood and giving a stab at this thing called life. Can't wait to see what comes next!

Traveller

This is a series I recently did on my beautiful friend Ashleigh Mower, for my Creative Thought & Capture class taught by the amazing Paul Meyer. In the class Paul encourages us to think outside of the box and find creative and different ways of creating images. Since the class is about exploring new things I wanted to experiment and try to get a aged film look with my digital camera, so I decided to use a plastic bag to shoot through and got some pretty cool results.

In this series I wanted to portray a girl who had just arrived to a dock in a brand new place and she has no indefinite plans of where to go or what to do. Everything is a mystery but something tells me she's not lost.
